ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Police Officer Matt Smith was recognized for combating auto theft in San Diego.

ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Police Officer Matt Smith was recently honored for combating auto theft in San Diego County.

Smith was recognized with an Auto Theft Advisory Committee’s Vehicle Theft Recovery Award which honors excellence in law enforcement.
The ceremony recognized 28 officers from throughout the county who contributed to the fight against auto theft.
“Officer Smith has made significant contributions to the safety of our campus and surrounding community, both in the areas of auto theft recovery and prevention and DUI enforcement," said Lamine Secka, ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø's chief of police. "He is a credit to the police department and the campus.â€
Positive directions
Officers were recognized for the number of stolen vehicles they had recovered in 2013.
During that time, officer Smith was the top recovery officer at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, having recovered five stolen vehicles, two of which were occupied and resulted in arrests.
In all of San Diego County, law enforcement officers recovered 83 percent of the approximately 12,000 vehicles reported stolen in 2013.
During his time at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, Smith has recovered six stolen vehicles, resulting in three arrests and a total recovery value of $51,000.
