About the Artists
Boarder Crossings: Patineta, Paz y DIY Democracy brings together a dynamic group of artists working across Tijuana, San Diego and the broader border region.
The exhibition is produced by David Cline, founding director of the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Center for Public and Oral History and the Fred J. Hansen Peace Chair, and curated by Andrea Buchetti, a faculty member at the University of Padua and a visiting professor at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø. The exhibition centers the skateboard as both an artistic surface and a cultural symbol, one that carries stories of movement, resistance, identity and everyday life.
The participating artists represent a wide range of practices, from painting and carving to kinetic sculpture, tattoo techniques, woodworking and recycled design.
Many of the works transform skateboards into narrative objects, using them as platforms to explore themes such as migration, memory, community, labor and cultural resilience. Others expand beyond the board into functional objects and large-scale installations, reinforcing the exhibition’s commitment to accessibility and experimentation.
